# GNOME Shell and Mutter meetings
Meetings to discuss development of GNOME Shell, mutter and related components. Everyone is welcome to join.
Bi-weekly on Fridays 1500-1600 hours (CET/CEST) on even weeks.
Hosted on meet.gnome.org, usually at https://meet.gnome.org/seb-i1b-k40-dya.
Check the [GNOME Shell matrix room](https://matrix.to/#/#gnome-shell:gnome.org) for short notice changes.
## Agenda
If there is anything you want to discuss, please add it with your name to the agenda of the next meeting. If there are no agenda items for a meeting, we usually fall back to reviewing, triaging and whatever else comes up.
If you do not have access to edit this document, feel free to reach out on matrix to request a topic.
### October 31
* GNOME Shell testing, touch and gesture testing, jasmine testing framework
*
### August 8
* Merge reques triaging for GNOME 49
### July 22
* GUADEC "State of the Shell" talk
### May 16
* MetaMonitor/MetaLogicalMonitor persistence
* Mutter + gsd backlight APIs
* X11 removal
### January 10
* Discussed fullscreen on attached dialogs
- Should it be allowed? Currently the color calibration dialog fullscreens itself, and would have to either stop being attached, or open a third non-attached dialog to work
- Fullscreening a modal dialog currently results in a window not closable from the overview
- It doesn't currently work on X11
- How to reproduce: gtk4-demo -> Video Player -> Fullscreen
- gtk4-demo can't unfullscreen itself (except maybe with some easter egg key combo), which should be fixed independently
- Either allow it on both X11 and Wayland, or on none. Allowing might need to still show some close dialog in the shell overview, disallowing
### December 13
* gnomedisplayctl / gdctl tool naming conventions
* global shortcuts status
* making ClutterText optional
* cogl vk backend
* keybinding refactoring
### October 4
* wayland-protocols governance discussion
* reviewing/triaging old mutter and shell MRs
### September 20
* Startup notification, moving forward:
- Mutter could use knowledge of "apps" (e.g. to lookup the entry in the desktop file)
- Move shell-app-system.c, shell-app.c, shell-app-cache.c, shell-window-tracker.c functionality related to app tracking to mutter (while changing the architecture a bit)
- Launch context control in the shell, but launching and abstracting in mutter
- Don't want StIcon in mutter, just an icon abstraction, e.g. GIcon
- Something in gnome-shell that turns that into the icon actor, either some ShellApp wrapper, or some actor that takes an `Meta.App`
- For extension compatibility, might want to poke at the mutter introspected class prototype to add things they expect, as well as the current API they use to find the app
* Branching 47
- Florian wants our toolbox image to be based on f41 before branching
- might branch sooner than usual (before the 47.1 release)
### August 30
* Preparing for the 47.rc release
### August 23 (canceled)
* MR review for the RC: mutter!1441 (proposed by Michel, though I normally can't make the meeting timeslot)
### August 9
* Scroll speed
- Discrete mouse scroll should probably not affect the number of discrete axis events, but could perhaps affect the "logical pixel" axis distance
- Perhaps it should be tied to mouse speed for touch pads, but that might be disruptive
- Carlos to write a comment
* Session management
- Probably hard to get the protocol upstream ready in time for GNOME 47, so might consider xx_ prefixed hidden behind a DebugControl flag.
* Color management
- Already close to RC, decided to focus on three MRs: preparatory plumbing (mostly done), experimental Wayland protocol, output brightness tweakability (in a branch, close to ready to be proposed). Further advancements should target GNOME 48.
### July 12
